Future Housing Initiatives, Inc. – Standardized Code of Ethics

Future Housing Initiatives, Inc. (FHI) is committed to maintaining a safe, ethical, and recovery-focused environment for individuals in our sober living homes. This Code of Ethics provides clear guidelines to ensure professionalism, resident rights, and operational integrity.

AUTONOMY

Respect residents' rights to make choices regarding their recovery, within the structure of the program.

NON-MALEFICENCE

Commit to doing no harm, ensuring staff do not engage in fraud, harassment, abuse, or conflicts of interest.

BENEFICENCE

Act in the best interest of residents by providing a supportive, stable, and recovery-centered living environment.

JUSTICE

Treat all residents fairly and equitably, ensuring consistency in rules, discipline, and opportunities for support.

Resident Rights & Confidentiality

  • Residents’ personal, medical, and financial information must remain confidential, in compliance with HIPAA and the Maryland Confidentiality of Medical Records Act (MCMRA).
  • Residents have the right to fair and non-discriminatory treatment regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or financial status.
  • House agreements and rules must be transparent, and grievances will be addressed fairly without retaliation.

Operational Standards & Compliance

Staff & Manager Conduct

  • Staff must maintain professional boundaries and shall not become romantically involved with residents.
  • Operators and managers in recovery must lead by example, maintaining their own sobriety and participating in personal recovery programs.
  • Managers and staff will not borrow or lend money or engage in any financial transactions with residents.
  • Staff and residents must report any intimidation, bullying, or harassment, which will be handled with due process.

Safety & Community Relations

  • No weapons are permitted on the premises.
  • No physical violence, threats, or harassment will be tolerated.
  • Residents will be encouraged to build positive relationships with recovery professionals and support networks.
  • The house must operate in a way that minimizes complaints from neighbors and the community.

Transparency & Accountability

  • All financial and operational decisions must remain transparent.
  • Any violation of this Code of Ethics may result in disciplinary action, termination, or referral to relevant oversight agencies.
